Party Plan by Party Consultant Michelle Hylton

www.PartyShelf.com

General Information:

Use the theme ideas whether you are having a Professional Magician performing

at your party or your guest will be performing the magic tricks.

I created this theme for an 8 year old Birthday Party.  We decided to add

color to the theme by mixing in a Smiley Face Theme.  It looked fantastic!

Invitations:    You could cut out from black paper shapes of top hats and then a smaller

piece of white in the same shape.  Write your invitation information on the white top

hat and then glue onto the black top hat.  I like foam craft and here is photo of one

I created with a bunny that comes out of the hat with the party information on it.

You could also create one on your computer and print them off.

Party Plan Outline

Greet Guest – Welcome guest to party and you could give them their top hat

and magic wand.  For a party where your guest will perform

magic tricks, give each guest a  small magic trick with instructions

that they must learn and practice before the show ( activity #2 below).

Opening Activity – Here are activities that will last 10 –15 minutes.   Several options are:

Craft Activity

    1.  Make Wands - Instead of store bought wands, have the girls paint and

decorate wood dowels.  Use black  and white paint.  Leave about 2

inches from one end to paint white.  Add gold or silver glitter glue to the

end of the wand after the white end has dried.

    2. Decorate a Magic Box - Decorate one of our small gift boxes as a

Magic Box.  Use  stars, dice or other fun stickers.  Use glitter gel or

markers. Your guest will now have their own box to store cards and

        magic tricks in.

    3. Magic Wand  Bookmark - Using precut foam craft stars, one large black,

one small yellow, a black ribbon, a paper fastener and glitter paint.

Have each guest assemble their bookmark by inserting paper fastener

through small yellow star, large black star and then the ribbon.  Use

glitter paint decorate the stars edges and write their name on the black

        ribbon.

Magic Activity

Each guest is given a small magic trick to learn and practice for 5 minutes.

Then each guest will get up on stage and perform their trick (another 5-10

     minutes).

Magic Show

                1. It is best to have the Magic Show start 20-30 minutes into your party in

case any guest arrive late.   I have also met entertainers who do magic with

either balloon sculpting or face painting afterwards.

                2. Have your guest put on their own magic show. One by one each gets up on

the stage ( or stage area).  Make sure they are wearing their top hats and

take  a picture.  You can then send them one in your thank-you card.

Cake Celebration – After the show, the kids will be ready to eat.  Make a cake in the

shape of a top hat or have a bakery decorate the top of cake with a

                             top hat, wand or stars.

Options:  You could go right into gift opening and then end the party or add additional party games before gift opening.

Additional Party Games:

1. Magical Penny  - We will get the Birthday Girl to try to perform this trick for her guest.

2. Card in the Hat Trick  - Players are given an equal number of playing cards. Set up a magic top hat in the middle of the floor.   Have guest form a circle around the hat.  Going clockwise have each guest toss a card into the hat.  If they get theirs in they continue to toss until they miss.  The player with the most cards in the hat is the winner and can start the second round of play.

3. Magic Jelly Bean – Fill a small jar or bag with colorful jellybeans. Ask each guest to write down their guess of how many beans they think are in the jar or bag.  Announce how many are in the jar and determine which child guessed accurately to win.

4. Card Memory – Lay out a deck of cards face down across the floor, depending on the number of kids, you can play individually or in teams.  A guest takes a turn trying to make matches.  If a match is made, then the person continues to play until he misses.  The individual or team with the most matches wins.

5. Missing Rabbit Search – Hide one or several stuff animal bunnies.  Play individually or as teams and search for the bunny.  If playing in teams, make sure each team is given a color.  Find the bunny with the corresponding team color.  The bunnies will have a ribbon of color around its neck.

Magic Treats

- Magic Wands – Pretzel Rods dipped in dark or white chocolate and rolled in sprinkles

- Magic Rabbit Ice-Cream Balls – Scoop a ball of ice cream large enough to fit into a cupcake liner.  Roll the ball of ice cream in coconut flakes.  Set inside cupcake liner.  Use decorative gel to make  Rabbit eyes (black), a nose (red), and whiskers (black).  Use halved sugar cookies for the ears.  Store in freezer until ready to serve.

-Magic Mix – Thin Pretzels, white marshmallows, colorful M&M’s
