Party Decor |

Outside Pumpkin Patch Decor:
-
Use the corner area of a yard, fence or between two
trees.
-
Create a "U" shape wall of straw bales and add some
cornstalks for your back setting.
-
Use
pumpkin,
black and
orange balloons tied to the straw bales and
corn stalks.
-
If you have burlap sacks, lay them across the bales to
be used as a seat for the party. They can also be reused for some fun
sack races.
-
If you have fallen leaves scatter them around. For
warmer climates, you can use paper leaf cutouts.
-
Place mini and large pumpkins
all around your pumpkin patch. The mini ones can be used as a favor or
party of your craft time. Kids can paint their mini pumpkins.
-
Create a sign for your pumpkin patch
or
customize your own banner.
-
Add some extra decor like apple baskets, Scarecrows, a
wheel barrow filled with pumpkins.
-
Don't forget to gather all your goblins for a pumpkin
patch photo.

Indoor Pumpkin Patch:
-
Using a corner of the room, layout burlap sacks. If you are daring, put down
heavier floor paint covers, tape to carpet or floor and bring in real straw
bales for the corner. Place them as close to the wall to minimize the mess.
Use the
cornfield or
autumn scene setters to create the perfect background on your wall.
-
Add mini pumpkins or create mini balloons pumpkins
(shown in photo above). Just use 5" orange balloons, wrap with
green curling ribbon fittingly to create the pumpkin look. You can cut out
leaves from green crepe paper.
-
Add more decorations like:
|
Use traditional Halloween
colors of orange and
black. Add some fun with purple or lime green.

GAME IDEAS |
|
|
|
|
|
Pass
the broom - A variation of Hot
Potato. Children stand in a circle while Halloween music
plays. When the music stops the person holding the broom is
eliminated from the game. The game continues until 1 child is left,
who is the winner.
Game
Variations:
Pass
the Witches Hat
Pass
the Skull
Pass
the Pumpkin (mini size)
Pass the Slime |
Pin The Wart on the Witch
- Similar to Pin the tail
on the Donkey, instead of a tail use gum for the wart! Draw a witch's face on a piece of
poster board or find a witch cutout. Give each child a small piece of gum to
chew. One at a time, blindfold the child, spin them around twice and
point them in the general direction. Tell them to take out their gum and
put it into their fingers to pin on the witch. The closest piece of gum to the wart on the witches face
wins! |
Pin the Spider on the WEB - Use a giant
spider web, blind fold and spiders
(plastic,
paper, foam craft with tape or Scotch's sticky
squares). Each child gets a
turn at trying to get the spider near the center of the web where a
plastic fly is waiting to be caught (tape or tie with black thread a
plastic
fly in the center of the web). For the spider web, purchase one
at the store or make one with black yarn .
|
|
Ring
the pumpkin - Large decorated rings ( embroidery
hoops) are used to toss and ring a pumpkin. Give each child at least 3
tries.
Pumpkin Bucket Toss - Simply set
up plastic pumpkin buckets and use bean bags. Set the buckets in a line.
Each child gets a turn trying to get a bean bag in the first bucket, if they
succeed they try for the next bucket and so on. The higher they get the
bigger the prize. Also include a consolation candy prize for those who
don't get any in.
|
Frankenstein
Eyeball Race - Divide guest into teams.
Each team gets
an eyeball and spoon.
Guest race to one line and back to the next player
without dropping
the eyeball. If the eyeball is dropped they have
to go back to the
start line and go again. The first team all
members finish wins!
Tip: Use candy foiled wrap eyeballs,
ping pong balls decorated to look like eyeballs or a peeled boiled egg
with marker drawing with veins. |
Bat
Soup - Toss bat bean bags into a witches pot. Each person is
given three bags
to throw into a black witches cauldron.
Make bat bean bags from fabric, or felt, fill with rice or beans.
Here is a photo of my bat bean bags:

I
am not a sewer, but I was able to make these by hand sewing 4" square
pieces of bat material. I put two squares together, with the print side
facing each other. Sewed around 3 sides and left a small opening on the
4th side. I then turned my bean bag inside out to get the bright print
side facing outward. I then filled with rice and then sewed up the
opening. |
|
Musical Bones -
Place foam, paper
or plastic bones on a small table.
There
is one less bone than players. The children walk around the table while
Halloween music plays. When
the music stops, the children all try
to grab
a bone. The child without a bone is eliminated from
the game. Continue playing until there
is one winner.
Broom Race -Have two teams and let
them race through an obstacle course on brooms. The first team to have all
players go through the course wins.
Spider Ring Toss

|
Twisted Spiders - Play the game of Twister.
Spider Web - Best played outside among
trees, if playing inside use sturdy object to anchor web.
Prior to the party cut
15-20ft strings of different color yarn. One color per expected guest.
Anchor one end of the yarn to a tree or large sturdy object (for example the
couch leg). Now weave the yarn around other trees or objects to create a web
leaving about 3 feet at the end. Repeat for other colored strings, be
careful not to break any. All strings should end up at the same spot.
I like to knot the end of the string through a medium size bead and write
the name of each guest on the bead. This will be the starting spot for
the game and each child can easily find their string.
To start the game give
each player an end of a string. Players make their way rewinding their
yard through the web. The first player to untangle their yarn from the
giant web wins. |
Mummy Wrap
- Divide children into 3 teams. Each team chooses a Mummy
and the other are wrappers. Provide each team a small roll of toilet
paper.
The wrappers
must wrap their mummy from head to toe. The first team that wraps their
mummy and finishes their roll of paper wins. Play some Halloween music
like the Monster Mash, while they wrap. |

Boo Who? |
Piñata |
Craft picture frames using Halloween precut foam pieces and black or orange
foam for frame. Provide a separate craft table,
materials, and
glue (optional q-tips/containers to share glue). Take a Polaroid picture
of your guest in costume. At the end of the party give each child their photo
and frame.
|
As each guest arrive, tape a paper or index card with a Halloween
icon written on it to their back. The object of the game is to guess
what Halloween icon you are by asking only yes or no questions to other guest?
Guest can
only answer with a yes or no. For
example, you are a black cat. You may ask, "Am I orange in color?" Another guest would
answer, "No." You ask, "Am I black in color?" Other guest answers, "Yes"
and so on. You have to ask a different person each time, but may return to ask someone you
have asked before. You cannot ask one person two questions in a row.
The first to figure out who they are yells, "BOO!". If they guess
wrong then everyone keeps playing.
|
Give
each child a loot bag and have them take turns at smashing the piñata.
Here are some tips for a safe game.
1. Have at least two adults supervising.
One to help the child trying to hit the piñata, while the other watches
the other children do not get in the way.
2. Make all kids stand behind a line
(use tape to mark off or cones) while it is not their turn.
3. Make sure each child has a loot bag
to collect goodies.
4. After the piñata breaks and candy
falls, tell the children they must wait until an adult says 1, 2 3, GO!
This way you can make sure the person with the stick (plastic or wood) has
cleared the way and can also pick up candy.

Shadow Play
|
|
Print coloring pages off the
Internet. |
Paint bats, ghosts, witch hats,
or pumpkins on the kids face. |
Hang a sheet across the corner of the room.
Create a box of Halloween costume pieces. Set up a strong lamp in the corner
directed at the sheet. Pre-write descriptions of actions the children have
to act out. Each child gets a turn to stand behind the sheet and act
out the instructions on a card. For example a witch crashed on her broom,
Dracula bit something too hard, ghost rising from a grave, be creative. They
can be ghoulish or fun. |
